Nikita Kucherov Top Winger Ranking Sets The Bar

Nikita Kucherov Top Winger Ranking Sets The Bar

The Nikita Kucherov top winger ranking has the Tampa Bay Lightning star at No. 1 on NHL Network's latest Top 20 Wings Right Now list.

David Pastrnak follows at No. 2, with Kirill Kaprizov at No. 3.

That order won't shock anyone who has watched Kucherov control a game.

It still matters, though. A preseason ranking is a snapshot. And this snapshot says the reigning Hart Trophy winner remains the standard at his position.

NHL Network's list is part of a nine-part Top Players Right Now series. The panel is judging the league's wings as they enter the upcoming season, not simply handing out trophies for past work.

Nikita Kucherov Top Winger Ranking Holds

Kucherov landing first also fits the recent pattern. An earlier NHL Network ranking had him at No. 1 for the second straight year. So this is not a one-off decision from a single list.

The top three are especially clean.

Tampa Bay's playmaking engine sits ahead of Boston's David Pastrnak and Minnesota's Kirill Kaprizov, a group that keeps showing up near the front of winger discussions.

A separate evaluation of the best NHL wingers used the same top-three order. That consistency is useful, but it doesn't make the debate boring. It makes the question sharper: who can actually force a change?

For now, the answer is still Kucherov. He gets the top spot because his impact is bigger than a highlight reel. He dictates where the puck goes, turns small openings into danger, and makes an entire attack feel connected.

Why do the Panthers have three top wingers?

Florida's biggest story is not just that the Panthers placed three players on the list.

It is who those players are: Matthew Tkachuk at No. 8, Sam Reinhart at No. 14.

And newly acquired Brady Tkachuk at No. 18.

That ties Florida with Tampa Bay for the most players on the list, with three each. Only the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild and have multiple wingers represented.

Matthew Tkachuk is the clear headliner. The elder Tkachuk is the only Florida player in the top 10, ranked ahead of William Nylander and Cole Caufield while sitting behind Jason Robertson and Matt Boldy.

The ranking as well gives Florida a useful identity.

The Panthers are not represented by one isolated star and a collection of hopefuls.

They have three recognized top-20 wings, including both Tkachuk brothers on the same team.

How high is Brady Tkachuk ranked?

Brady Tkachuk checks in at No. 18, ahead of Cutter Gauthier and Lucas Raymond. That placement makes him the lowest-ranked Panther. But it too puts the newly acquired forward inside a crowded league-wide group.

The important part is the fit beside Matthew Tkachuk and Reinhart.

NHL Network's list does not prove how the trio will perform together.

But it does show the scale of Florida's reshaped wing group.

Florida acquired the younger Tkachuk brother from the Ottawa Senators in a blockbuster trade that cost the Panthers a trio of first-round picks. That price raises the pressure. But the ranking adds another layer to the move: the Panthers now have two Tkachuk brothers among the league's top 20 wings.

Why does the Atlantic Division matter?

The list is packed with Atlantic Division talent.

Ten of the 20 ranked players play in the division, which makes Florida's three-player showing feel even more significant.

This is where rankings become more than preseason content.

They sketch the daily problem facing every Atlantic contender: elite wings are not spread evenly across the league. They are concentrated in a division that already demands constant attention.

Still, rankings do not settle line combinations, defensive work, or who wins the hard shifts. They only set expectations.

For Florida, those expectations are now attached to Matthew, Brady, and Reinhart every night.

The hook was Kucherov at No. 1, and that remains the cleanest takeaway.

But Florida's trio is the bigger roster question. Can the Panthers turn three top-20 names into one overwhelming wing group? That is what to watch when the season begins.
