The Golden Knights finished significantly behind Colorado in the regular season standings.

Vegas had a solid record and secured the top seed in the Pacific. Many were not picking them to walk through the Avalanche, who had an impressive point total and home-ice throughout the West.

That's exactly why this matters. Vegas has been strong this postseason. They didn't back into the Final. They earned it by beating the best regular-season team in hockey in four straight games. The Golden Knights have been to the Cup before, winning it all recently. They know what this stage feels like.

That's a factor Carolina can't simulate.

What to Watch Tonight

Carolina's depth up front is real.

Their goaltending has been exceptional. Home-ice in a building that hasn't hosted a Cup Final game in many years gives them something Vegas cannot manufacture: a hungry crowd that's waited a long time for this.

But Vegas has already answered every question the playoffs have asked them. They went through Colorado without flinching.

The series starts tonight in Raleigh. The storylines are thick enough to fill a season. Brind'Amour chasing history. Two elite goalies meeting at the worst possible time to have an off night.
